Empowering Youth with Big Brothers Big Sisters
Nurturing Confidence and Wellness with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peel/York Education
The 2023 Children's Grant, a generous contribution of $3,000, has made a substantial impact on Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peel/York - “Go Girls! Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds” program. The curriculum, designed to address areas often neglected by female-identifying youth (11-14), has shown significant positive outcomes.
Among participants, 83% reported increased self-confidence, 72% became more physically active, and 70% adopted healthier eating habits.
The Go Girls! program, delivered through the dedication of 22 female Mississauga residents contributing approximately 585 volunteer hours, provides a unique and impactful group mentoring service. This has not only addressed critical needs in the community but has also become one of BBBSPY's most sought-after programs. The grant has enabled the continuous delivery of this program, ensuring that female-identifying youth have a supportive platform to connect with caring adult mentors.
“The first thing I learned was about self care for ourselves, the second thing I learned was to treat yourself kindly. The last thing I learned from Go Girls was never change who you are for someone else.”
