Growing Community Connections through Ecosource

Ecosource – Growing Community Connections
The Pendle grant of $5,800 from the has made a significant impact on Ecosource’s initiative to enhance community connections through sustainable gardening. This funding facilitated the expansion of access to community gardens, ensuring that fresh and culturally appropriate food became more accessible to residents of Mississauga. By engaging local communities, Ecosource successfully organized ten animated gardens, complete with workshops and events that not only fostered the cultivation of food but also provided educational opportunities for community members.

With 1,530 volunteers contributing a total of 13,325 hours—equivalent to an impressive in-kind support value of $308,473.75—this initiative has strengthened community bonds and elevated awareness around food security issues. The project resulted in the creation of 36 new garden beds and the growth of 12,582 pounds of food, addressing the pressing needs of equity-deserving groups in the region. Notably, 89% of gardeners reported that the primary benefit of their participation was the ability to grow food for personal consumption.
