Cultivating Curiosity through Scientists in Schools

The 2023 Smart and Caring Children and Youth Grant, amounting to $2,750, has had a transformative impact on the Scientists in Schools program. Over the course of five months, 10 complimentary community workshops were successfully delivered through three host organizations, reaching over a 100 vulnerable children in the Mississauga community.

These workshops, held between July and November 2023, provided experiential STEM learning opportunities, fostering connections between scientific concepts and the everyday worlds of these young minds.

The delivery of 150 complimentary STEM workshops, with the Mississauga Public Library hosting five, the City of Mississauga hosting three, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peel hosting two, ensured that vulnerable children had access to enriching educational experiences. This not only supported learning outside the traditional classroom setting but also provided crucial learning support for these children.

“150 vulnerable children in the Mississauga community received complimentary STEM enrichment opportunities outside of their classrooms, which provided experiential learning opportunities that helped them to make connections between STEM and their everyday worlds and provided learning support.”
